Residential BMPs

In order to meet the strict bacteria reductions in the Looney Creek waters, all failing septic systems and straight pipes need to be identified and corrected immediately. The picture above shows a straight pipe supplying untreated human waste to a creek.
Mountain Castles SWCD is responsible for implementing the Looney Creek Watershed TMDL Residential Program.
The TMDL Cost-Share Assistance Program for On-Site Sewage Disposal Systems will consider any repair or replacement approved by the Virginia Department of Health, and not prohibited by any local ordinance to be suited for cost share assistance under this program for Dwellings that are occupied.
